Creating a blank script

Open a production and select New Script to create a blank screenplay. Spark Story uses Fountain syntax for screenplay formatting — scene headings, dialogue, action lines, and transitions are all supported.

The script editor interface

The script editor includes:
  • Toolbar — Formatting controls for scene headings, dialogue, action, and transitions.
  • Formatting palette — Quick-access panel for common Fountain elements.
  • Sidebar — Lists all scenes generated from your script headings.

Scene headings

Scene headings (also called slug lines) structure your production. Each heading that begins with INT., EXT., or similar prefixes automatically creates a corresponding scene in the scene editor. Write headings in standard Fountain format:
INT. STUDIO - DAY
EXT. ROOFTOP - NIGHT
See script outline and 3D scene list for details on how headings become editable 3D scenes.
