# Introduction

> What Spark is, where it fits in the Lightcraft ecosystem, and who this documentation is for

## What is Spark?

Spark is a collaborative platform for filmmakers and storytellers: bring in a script, build and visualize 3D scenes, prototype virtual camera setups, and take a project into production as a team. It covers the planning and design phase, then hands off to production and post.

## The Spark apps

* **Spark web app** — the browser platform. Script management, 3D scene assembly, virtual camera prototyping, the Gallery, and lightweight editing.
* **Spark iOS app** — the companion app for iPhone and iPad. Everything created in the Spark web app is accessible on the device through the same real-time database. Adds device-native capabilities: AR navigation, remote camera authoring (Direct Drive), and real-time compositing of live actors into virtual scenes.
* **Spark Desktop app** — a companion app for Mac and Windows that pulls recorded takes and their full metadata off an iPhone or iPad and uploads them to the platform.

## Where Spark fits in the ecosystem

Spark is the starting point of the Lightcraft virtual production pipeline:

1. **Spark** — Write, design scenes, plan setups, and shoot real-time composites on an iPhone or iPad in pre-production and production.
2. **Jetset** — Capture production camera tracking and composites on set with a cinema camera.
3. **Autoshot** — Bring tracked data into Blender, Unreal, After Effects, or Nuke for post-production.

Scenes built in the Spark web app export directly to Jetset, carrying over assets, camera positions, and locators.

## High-level workflow

A typical Spark workflow follows these steps:

1. **Write** — Create or import a Fountain, Final Draft, or PDF formatted screenplay.
2. **Build scenes** — Arrange 3D assets and position cameras for each scene heading. Lighting is fixed and consistent across every scene.
3. **Plan setups** — Record camera moves, and share previews with your team in the Gallery.
4. **Shoot** — Record real-time composites with the Spark iOS app, or export to set for Jetset and a cinema camera.
5. **Review and edit** — Offload takes with the Spark Desktop app, review them with your team, and assemble a rough cut.

## Who this documentation is for

This documentation is for anyone using Spark, including directors, cinematographers, producers, and virtual production supervisors. No prior 3D experience is required — the guides start from account creation and build up to advanced scene editing.
