# Render a take's background without uploading video

> The phone now sends every take's data, so the web can render a background before any video is uploaded

Feature · Web · Released [2026-10-12](/spark/changelog/changelog#2026-10-12)

The Spark iOS app now sends each take's tracking data as soon as recording stops, even with **Auto-upload video** turned off. The take gets a card in the Gallery right away, and **Regenerate BG** can render its background on the web before any video is uploaded.

## What you need

Spark iOS 0.0.61 or later on the phone.

## How it works

1. On the phone, record a take. You do not need to tap **Upload**.
2. On the web, open the Gallery and find the take's card. A take recorded with the phone's camera off reads **No video yet. Render it with Regenerate BG from the menu**.
3. Open the card's **…** menu and click **Regenerate BG**.
4. When the message "Background updated" appears, click the **BG** chip to play the background.

On the phone's Takes page, the switch that read **Auto-upload new takes** now reads **Auto-upload video**. It covers video only.

## Current guide

This page describes the feature as it was released. For how it works today, see [regenerating a background](/spark/gallery/gallery#regenerating-a-background).
